It is so great that you have come out about this. So many people are totally in the dark about the existence of intersex people. I fear that so many intersex people in the U.S. are caught in the crossfire of Conservatives in America who have launched a cultural war against people who, for whatever reason, have decided to change their sex.

I was the tall girl. It SUCKED Add braces Add redhair Add overweight Add scoliosis diagnosis I felt freakishly large. Shes is absolutely beautiful inside and out. We all have our own struggles so its good to get grounded and peer outward to gain perspective. I thank her for her bravery. She could easily gone the whole intersex "they/them" and made it her whole identity (why is it being a different gender like that i wonder? Wrapping your whole identity around it) but she wanted to stay female and that is just as beautiful to me.

As a medical student years ago - we knew there were up to 6 different DNA types of human sexual variations - and 2 genders. This has always been in medicine. It is sad when some physicians are not educated enough to realize that nothing should be done until after the child goes through puberty - and let the child determine their sexual destiny and indentity without any surgery. Surgery should be determined by the young adult, while this child is being medically followed until 18. This also lets the child feel they have total control over their destiny - and provides mental stability and happiness. Please keep talking and reaching other people with this human story - this is the greatest contribution you can give the world - your wisdom about your life !!

I've read about there being fraternal twins in utero and one does not make it and somehow the other absorbs it and it can cause there to be problems with the surviving twin - even to the extent that a woman had two different dna's in different parts of her body. So we never know how any infant can turn out.

This is why I say there are more than 2 genders. Not to the point that actual genetic males and females can claim they want to be referred to as a dog, cat etc. That's just weird.

Ha ha 23& me sent me that same message. I am in my 60s and gave birth naturally to 3 children (all premature due to uterine deformities) . I had to TELL them I am a fully functional female, though I was born with a male exterior anatomy that was corrected after birth. Then I found out that certain intersex females CAN actually conceive.

I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing only what the media tells me and none of that makes any sense either, BUT you have just made perfect sense. I can't imagine what you went through when you were younger, but you have grown up into one heck of a fantastic Human being!

F*ck the haters, you're evolution in action, 100% of how species survive in the long run/big picture. Diversification through mutation. We're using the internet, communicating across the globe instantly, because at one point, some individual chimp-like ancestor was born with Chimp 2A and Chimp 2B chromosomes fused into Hominid 2... that's exactly how we differentiate from all other great apes, we have 23 chromosomal pairs, instead of 24. I know this doesn't make your experience or struggles any easier... but you're not a freak, you're necessary as were the many members with mutations in our family trees going back in time, without their shoulders to stand on, we wouldn't be here today. I'm a sigma 3+ deviant, so I do understand, not on genetic level, but psycho-social -- I'm called weird cuz I'm poor, if I were rich, they'd call me eccentric instead. As I call it, I'm gender ambivalent on my good days, but those rare, so I'm mainly gender-apprehensive. C-PTSD, hyperactive with FAMMMS, high threshold for cultural norms and mores acceptance. Outliers, doesn't mean we don't belong... we're the equivalent of range, just as necessary as those who are equivalent to the mean, average and mode for our species. The statistics for success require all of us in the equation somewhere. Meanwhile, it does have consequences -- the ignorant, stupid, and/or hateful will target outliers for abuse... a simpleton strategy for feeling safe/powerful/accepted, when these things are illusory -- tricks of the left brain, a nefarious liar and identity addict. Soon, your genetic makeup will be modifiable if you wish to join the bell curve, sigma-2 or less... how? CRISPR/Cas9 + AlphaFold 2, needs only a bit more development to make the human condition a process of programming 3d-printed playdough. You will be able to re-form yourself into one sex or the other, dial in genetic modifications germline level with novel protein expression possible due to A.I. protein folding prediction capabilities... All is either already presently available, though experimental, or will be ready for use in 15-20 years... give or take a decade due to potential breakthrough in tech or A.I. vs. potential disruption from religious nutjobs and/or megacorp monopolies trying to corner a market. So even if you find that you cannot tolerate a lifetime of being intersex -- just hang in there, options are already on their way -- but don't think you have to change a thing to be right with the world or yourself. It's your body, your temple, it belongs to you, and only you get to choose what you want of it, how you wish to worship (or not) at (or with) your temple. I'm not you, don't have to live your struggles, but think you're perfect as you are... but do feel a need to warn you: pregnancy is really hard on the body, you'll be healthier without it. Not knockin' it, just sayin' that in a couple decades, if you decide you want to transition to being able to become pregnant, I did give you fair warning.... ;-P Actually, by then, we'll likely be able to fix the occasional permanent physical consequences to a successful pregnancy cycle ending with live birth -- not guaranteed, but highly likely to be treated/fixed. IMO and YMMV.

That had to be wild to find out. But I'm sure letting people know they aren't alone and can grow up to have beautiful fulfilling lives helps so congrats on doing that and hopefully you find a way to accomplish the mom side, you obviously have the empathy and compassion and life experiences and wisdom to raise a child that many don't have.

Hi Sara, I just came across this....8 months after you posted it. I just want to say this was a brave video. I've only ever known about one other intersex person, and only because she's famous about it and like you, shared her story in her way, in her own time. Lady Colin Campbell in the UK.
